LAHORE: The Met office informed Thursday that moist currents from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are penetrating upper and central parts of the country and a westerly wave is also likely to approach upper parts on 20th June.

Under the influence of this weather system, dust storm/rain-wind/thundershower (with isolated heavy fall/hailstorm) are expected in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Bannu, Karak, D.I. Khan and Waziristan from 20th to 23rd June with occasional gaps.

In addition, dust storm/rain-wind/thundershower is expected in Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kalat, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Sahiwal from 21st to 23rd June with occasional gaps. Similarly, dust storm/rain-wind/thundershower is expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu and Jacobabad from 22nd to 24th June. So far as possible impacts and advice is concerned, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that wind storm/dust-thunderstorm/lightning might damage loose structures like electric poles, trees, vehicles and solar panels etc in upper/central parts including Islamabad. Also, very hot weather conditions are likely to subside gradually during the forecast period.

The PMD has advised farmers to manage their crop activities keeping in view the weather conditions.

To the general public, it has advised travellers and tourists to take precautionary measures during the weather activity. According to the forecast, urban flooding may occur in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi/Islamabad during the forecast period.

All concerned authorities are advised to remain ‘alert’ and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward situation.
