ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem delivered a sensational performance on Day 5 of the Asian Athletics Championship in Gumi, South Korea to win the gold medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw final, registering a throw of 86.40 meter, the best of the season in Asia.
The Olympic gold-medalist, outclassed his rivals with a powerful sixth-round throw that secured him the top podium finish, according information received here on Saturday.
His earlier attempts of 83.99m and 83.44m had already kept him among the leaders, but it was his final effort that sealed the deal, pushing him ahead of India’s Yadav and Japan’s Sakiyama.
Yadav earned the silver medal with a personal best of 85.16 meters, showing significant improvement in the final round. Meanwhile, Japan’s Sakiyama claimed bronze, also achieving a personal best of 83.75 meters.
Sri Lanka’s Pathirage narrowly missed the podium with a commendable throw of 83.27m, followed by India’s Singh at 82.57m. China’s Hu recorded a season-best 80.93m to take sixth place, while Sri Lanka’s Ranasinghe Mudiyanselage and Pakistan’s Yasir finished seventh and eighth respectively.
Arshad’s victory marks a proud moment for Pakistan in track and field athletics, reinforcing his status as one of Asia’s elite javelin throwers. His throw fell just short of the Championship Record of 86.72m and the Asian Record of 92.97m but set the bar for the 2025 season across the continent.
