KARACHI: All Pakistan Timber Traders Association (APTTA) delegation met with Incoming Conrad Tribble, US Consul General in Karachi and his team to strengthen wood-timber trade.

The delegation led by Sharjil Goplani, Chairman All Pakistan Timber Traders Association along with his colleagues Shabbir Bhuriwala, Mushtaq Vali Mohammed, Minhas Jafrani and Rizwan Bangash attended the meeting.

The delegation of APTTA had the honor of being hosted by the incoming Consul General and his team, USDA Regional Director Economic Chief FAS, Agriculture Specialist Islamabad and officials from Karachi, in an effort to bolster trade relations as wood-timber is and pave the way for enhanced wood-timber trade by overcoming the regulatory hurdles, may delete the import conditions (i) and (iii) mentioned against Sr. Nos. 386 to 440 of Appendix B, Part IV (H.S. Code 44.01 up to 44.09) of the Import Policy Order, 2022, to meet international best practices.

The CG graciously welcomed and engaged with the APTTA delegation, highlighting the importance of sustainable trade partnerships between Pakistan and the United States. The meeting, held in a collaborative spirit, aimed to discuss pertinent matters related to timber trade, identifying opportunities to expedite and smoothen the trade process.

The United States stands out as a significant exporter of wood to Pakistan, excelling in both softwoods and hardwoods. Recognizing this, the discussions during the meeting centered around strategies to further strengthen the wood- timber trade between the two nations.

The APTTA delegation and the officials from various sectors engaged in a comprehensive dialogue to identify potential obstacles and jointly develop solutions for the sustainable growth of the wood-timber trade.

The subjects addressed during the meeting included exploring avenues for increased bilateral trade, addressing regulatory hurdles, and promoting sustainable practices in the wood-timber industry. The consul general expressed optimism about the prospects of deepening the trade ties between the United States and Pakistan.

The interaction between the APTTA delegation and the CG showcased the commitment of both parties to fostering mutually beneficial economic relationships. The readiness to collaborate and find common ground signifies a positive step forward in the bilateral trade partnership

With the dialogue initiated during this meeting, the All Pakistan Timber Traders Association and its counterparts are geared towards a future of strengthened cooperation, paving the way for an even more robust wood-timber trade industry.
