MOSCOW: Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani while addressing the members of the Russian Federation Council during the Plenary Session on Wednesday emphasised the need for enhancing historical ties and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

According to a press release received here, the Chairman Senate while expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to the Pakistani delegation, acknowledged the pride and honour he felt to be present in the culturally diverse nation of Russia.

He commended the symbolism of the Russian flag’s colours and the inspiring national anthem, which reflect freedom, justice, valour, patriotism, power, and national integration.

Highlighting the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Russia, he recognised the strong bond shared by the peoples of both nations over an extended period. He expressed confidence that the evolving global landscape would further strengthen bilateral ties and open new avenues of cooperation.

The Pakistani business community has shown significant interest in expanding trade relations with Russia.

Sadiq Sanjrani paid tribute to the heroic struggle of the Soviet Union during World War II and the role played by the people of the Indus Valley, now Pakistan, in the defeat of Nazism. He regarded Leningrad as a symbol of patriotism and courage and paid special homage to the Red Army and the Russian people.

The chairman also mentioned the prestigious Lenin Peace Prize awarded to Faiz Ahmed Faiz, a renowned Pakistani poet, dedicating his work to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the historic Battle of Leningrad.

Acknowledging the significance of parliamentary friendship groups in both Pakistan and Russia, he appreciated the personal role of Madam Valentina Matviyenko, the Speaker of the Council of the Russian Federation, in revitalizing Pakistan-Russia relations. He emphasised the vital role of parliamentary cooperation and effective diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations and resolving regional and international issues.

Chairman Senate emphasised the proactive role of the Pakistani parliament in finding innovative solutions to global challenges such as economic recession, pandemics, climate change, Islamophobia, extremism, and transnational terrorism. He called for regular, open, and constructive dialogue between parliaments worldwide to foster a deeper understanding among nations.

Stressing the importance of Pakistan-Russia relations, he highlighted the infinite opportunities that lie ahead. He expressed Pakistan’s commitment to resolving disputes diplomatically and urged the global community to work together for lasting peace and stability. The chairman underscored the positive momentum in Pakistan-Russia relations and the mutual desire to expand cooperation in various fields, including trade, economy, security, defence, culture, education, and people-to-people contacts.

Sanjrani expressed gratitude for President Putin’s support in developing Pakistan-Russia relations and acknowledged his mention of Pakistan in the context of trade connectivity. He highlighted the recent inauguration of a commercial shipping service between Pakistan and Russia, which signifies the potential for bilateral investment, economic growth, job creation, and technological advancement. The chairman regarded Russia’s focus on Asia as an opportunity for further bilateral economic cooperation.

As staunch believers in multilateralism, he emphasised the shared world view between Pakistan and Russia, emphasising the UN Charter and adherence to international law as the basis for contemporary international relations. He appreciated President Putin’s stance against the desecration of holy personalities and burning of holy books, applauding Russia’s commitment to an inclusive society that respects diversity and embraces its cultural and historical heritage, including its significant Muslim community.

In conclusion, Chairman Senate called for a new era of collaboration, understanding, and shared prosperity between Pakistan and Russia.
