ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-N senior vice president and chief organizer, Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday congratulated the leadership of China and Pakistan on the restoration of Sino-Pak trade after a three-year gap.

In a statement, she said the opening of the Khunjrab pass, which was closed due to Covid-19, is a significant development that will end the hardships of people on both sides. The re-opening of Khunjarab Pass will help to end the hardships of the people on both sides.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Xi Jinping are strengthening Pakistan-China iron brotherhood, she added.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif also praised the Pakistan-China iron brotherhood and accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government of deliberately stalling Pakistan-China trade activities and the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Supremo and the architect of CPEC, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif started the project with the help of China to boost Pakistan’s development.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif believes that if the CPEC and Pak-China trade had continued at the pace of the Pakistan Muslim League-N era, the people would not have been miserable today.

Congratulations for what? It was an imminent decision by both countries due to COVID pandemic. What's important and yet to be seen, is a list of duties that our government has imposed on various essential items that can benefit the industry and people of Pakistan. So far, we are incurring an opportunity cost by imposing ridiculous duties on solar equipment, agriculture implements, and many other items that can have cost-benefit to our economy.

Govt must ask China to move its factories to Special Economic Zones under the umbrella of CPEC. SEZs without factories are like trees without fruits or well without water. But first govt must know the difference between assembling and manufacturing. Assembling means importing parts and raw materials from other countries and join those parts and raw materials in assembling plants. Manufacturing means to produce parts and raw materials locally using local resources and local talent in manufacturing facilities and then join them together in assembly plants. Assembling is used for money laundering purposes because foreign companies didn't make anything in the country but remit the profit in dollars from a country which is already among the poorest nations in the world. Manufacturing is a genuine, honest, local thing. Manufacturing gives exposure to local talent, local resources, local market. Manufacturing contributes to economy, industrialization, global supply chains, wealth generation.

@test, "Govt must ask China to move its factories to Special Economic Zones under the umbrella of CPEC. " Who are you to dictate to China. As such companies that invested in Pak, are unable to take their profits back. So why would anyone invest in this god forsaken place. If the economic conditions are good, private sector will automatically invest in Pakistan. BTW, if Indian companies are intersted in investing in Pakistan and creating job growth in Pakistan, will you be willing, or you will wait for kashmir to be solved.
