ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Association of Large Steel Producers (PALSP) has urged the government to switch to Daylight Saving Time (DST) by reversing clocks by one hour. This measure will not only improve the productivity and performance of trade and industry but it will also help to reduce the effects of power shortage because this practice is supposed to prove as a good energy conservation measure.

Steel industry strongly tends to favour DST mechanism to conserve power. The extra hour of daylight will give a boost for businesses and increase economic activity.

It would be more appropriately referred to as ‘daylight optimization time. Earlier in 2009 the trade and industry had achieved better results from the experience of DST.

DST is need of hour because it will not only give stimulant to our drowning economy but will also help in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood-affected areas. This will result in stimulating economic growth, create much needed job opportunities and activation in the linked downstream industries.

The practice of Daylight Saving Time is being exercised by many countries with a rationale, to save energy.

Almost 64 countries used Daylight Saving Time in 2022 (including Turkey Iran, Canada, USA, European Union etc.), while 9 countries used DST in some jurisdictions.
