KARACHI: Some essential items including wheat prices rose, while other items remained weak on the commodities wholesale markets during the week ended on December 24, 2011.

On the opening day wheat old and new bardan rose by Rs 5 to Rs 2690 and Rs 2705, gur inferior type shed Rs 200 to Rs 4600, while better quality lost Rs 100 to Rs 5500, Khandsari lost Rs 500 to Rs 7000, Irri 6 Sindh low type shed Rs 50 to Rs 2850, while the better type was unchanged at Rs 3050, grams all type stayed put.

On Tuesday guwar Sindh low type rose by Rs 600 to Rs 8000, while better variety rose by Rs 500 to Rs 8100, guwar Punjab rose by Rs 300 to Rs 7700, while the other better type up by Rs 200 to Rs 7800, wheat old and new bardan rose by Re 1 to Rs 2700 and Rs 2715, Irri-6 Sindh low type rose by Rs 20 to Rs 3000, while the better type was held at Rs 3050, cottonseed oilcakes with bag in Sindh low type fell by Rs 150 to Rs 650, while better type lost Rs 50 to Rs 800.

On Wednesday Irri-6 Sindh inferior shed Rs 25 to Rs 2975, while better type lost Rs 50 to Rs 3000, Irri-9 Sindh low type unchanged was at Rs 4000, while the better quality rose by Rs 500 to Rs 5500, Basmati/D98 Shahdadkot low type lost Rs 900 to Rs 5500, while good type was down Rs 500 to Rs 6000, Super Basmati Punjab new low type shed Rs 1000 to Rs 6500, while the other type was down Rs 800 to Rs 7000, basmati broken low type lost Rs 500 to Rs 4500, while the better type shed Rs 500 to Rs 5500, wheat old and new bardan shed Rs 10 to Rs 2690 and Rs 2705, cottonseed oilcakes with bag Sindh low type stay put at Rs 650, while the other variety was higher by Rs 50 to Rs 850.

On Jodia Bazaar: Chemical items (per kg) Oxalic Acid China edged up by Rs 22 to Rs 115 and Citric Acid China down by Rs 6 to Rs 116. Petroleum Jelly sulphonic acid HARD rose by Rs 5 to Rs 180, Sitara Caustic Soda flashes lost Rs 2 to Rs 72, Caustic Taiwan shed Rs 4 to Rs 79, Rangolite "C" (per pound) Germany rose by Rs 8 to Rs 99, India was up Rs 2 to Rs 90, Hydrosulphite China 88pc down Rs 17 to Rs 77, Germany quoted at Rs 198 and India gained Rs 17 to Rs 76, acute acid Taiwan down Rs 140 to Rs 94.60 and Korea lost Re 1 to Rs 91.

On Thursday wheat old and new Bardan lost Rs 5 to Rs 2685 and Rs 2700, cotton-cakes with bag in Sindh shed Rs 50 to Rs 700 to Rs 800, Irri-6 Sindh low type shed Rs 25 to Rs 2950, better type gained Rs 2 to Rs 3020, yellow peas dal Ukraine low type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 4200, while better type rose by Rs 150 to Rs 4500.

On Jodia Bazaar Kirana items (per 40 kg) Mace lost Rs 4000 to Rs 100,000, small cardamom shed Rs 4000 to Rs 56000, big cardamom lost Rs 9000 to Rs 58,000, Kalongi shed Rs 50 to Rs 7,700 and Gum Arabic lost Rs 400 to Rs 6400.

On Friday commodities rates were unchanged, as most of the buyers were busy in preparations for Juma prayers.

On Saturday thin business was seen, as most of the buyers were on the sidelines in the absence of fresh leads. Irri-6 Sindh was the only item, which fluctuated modestly due to slight increase in demand, as low type picked up Rs 25 to Rs 2950 and better type was higher by Rs 30 to Rs 3050. Cottonseed oilcake with bag Sindh low type went down steeply by Rs 150 to Rs 550 and best quality also followed the same pattern, losing Rs 100 to Rs 700, castorseed Lasbela drifted lower by Rs 50 to Rs 2250 on easy supply position, castorseeds Sindh lost Rs 100 to Rs 2100.
