Former Chief Minister Punjab Dost Muhammad Khosa on Friday denied reports of his resignation from the basic membership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Media reports had earlier suggested that he had quit the party's basic membership after developing differences with the PML-N leadership. In a hurriedly-called press conference on Friday, Dost Khosa said his family had rendered "great sacrifices" for the PML-N and the Khosa family had always been loyal to the party.
"There is a front active against us inside the party, which is sponsoring a campaign to defame the Khosas," he said. He said that his father, Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa, was the "ultimate authority on deciding to stay or quit the PML-N". He said that the PML-N was in "control of a person who is being held hostage by the bureaucracy". He said the Sharif brothers were "fond of listening to their (bureaucrats') praises, which the Khosas "are unable to do so".
Commenting on the Sapna Khan case, Dost Khosa said he had never denied his relationship and he had quit as a Punjab Minister to face criminal proceedings in this regard. Sources claimed that Dost Muhammad Khosa was annoyed with the party leadership for not supporting him after the unfolding of a scandal involving an actress named Sapna. He was also unhappy with PML-N leaders for ignoring him on important issues.
On the other hand, the PML-N leadership had some reservations against Dost Muhammad Khosa and had conveyed the same to his father Sardar Zulifqar Ali Khosa. Moreover, there are reports that Sardar Zulifqar Ali Khosa, Senior Adviser to the Chief Minister, who is the father of Dost Khosa, also resigned from the PML-N, but it was not confirmed by anybody from the PML-N or the Khosa family.
On Thursday, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif is reported to have discussed the issues of the Khosa family and it was decided that Nawaz Sharif would hold a meeting with Zulfiqar Khosa on his return to Lahore from Murree. Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa, with a decade-long party affiliation, had sent a letter to the party leader, detailing problems he was facing and grievances against certain elements inside the party.
