ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, on Thursday, said that the Ministry of Interior has issued a notification regarding proscription of Tehreek Labibaik Pakistan (TLP).

Addressing Ullema conference, he said that government has imposed on TLP under section 11 B (I) of the Anti Terrorism Act 1997 (XXVII of 1997).

The Interior Ministry has issued a notification in this regard, he said, adding that the government will file a reference in the Supreme Court for dissolution of TLP.

He said that imposing once ideology on some one is not the teaching of holy Prophet (PBHU).

He called upon Ulema to convey the real message of Islam to the people during their Friday’s sermons.

The minister urged Ulema to play their due role in this regard.

The minister said that the government wanted to resolve this issue amicably.

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri has made serious efforts in this regard, he said, adding that Qadri held hours long negotiations with the TLP representatives.

According to the notification, the federal government has reasonable grounds to believe that Tehreek Labibaik Pakistan (TLP) is engaged in terrorism, acted in a manner prejudicial to the peace and security of the country, involved in creating anarchy in the country by intimidating the public, caused grievous bodily harm, hurt and death to the personnel of law enforcement agencies and innocent bystanders, attacked civilians and officials, created wide scale hurdle, threatened, abused and promoted hatred, vandalized and ransacked public and government properties including vehicles and caused arson and blocked essential health supplies to hospitals and has used, threatened, coerced, intimidated, and overawed the government, the public and created a sense of fear and insecurity in the society and the public at large.

It says that therefore, in exercise of the power confirmed by section 11 B (I) of the Anti Terrorism Act 1997 (XXVII of 1997) the federal government is pleased to list TLP in the first schedule to the said act as a proscribed organisation for the purpose of the said act.
