THE RUPEE: Upward trend

KARACHI: On Tuesday, PKR went up by quite a margin against USD in both inter-bank and open markets thus going below 160 in inter-bank market.

It also went up against Euro, AED and SR in open market. Globally, USD edged lower as market appetite for riskier currencies went up as a reaction to more positive news regarding COVID-19 vaccine and President Donald Trump accepting the start of transition to Biden led government.

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: In the interbank market, Pakistan Rupee gained 1.20 rupees for both buying and selling against USD over yesterday's rates closing at 159.80 and 159.90 respectively.

OPEN MARKET RATES: In the open market, PKR gained 1.05 rupees for buying and 75 paisas for selling over yesterday's rates closing at 160.10 and 160.60 respectively.

Against Euro, PKR went up by 1.50 rupees for buying and one rupee for selling closing at 188.50 and 190 respectively.

Against UAE Dirham, PKR gained 30 paisas for buying and 25 paisas for selling closing at 43.45 and 43.75 respectively.

Against Saudi Riyal, PKR gained 35 paisas for buying and 40 paisas for selling closing at 42.25 and 42.50 respectively.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee witnessed volatile trend in the process of trading against the American dollar in the local currency market on Tuesday.

Following fluctuating demand and supply situation in the market, the dollar moved both ways and closed for buying and selling at Rs 160.20 and Rs 161.80 against the overnight closing rates of Rs 161.00 and Rs 162.00 respectively, local currency dealers said.

Moreover, the rupee showed strength as it recovered its day earlier losses versus the pound sterling. As a result, the pound's buying and selling rates declined from Monday's closing of Rs 213.00 and Rs 214.50 to Rs 210.30 and Rs 213.00 respectively, they added.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar gained 50 paisas against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.

The dollar opened at Rs 160.50(buying) and Rs160.60(selling) against last rate of Rs 161(buying) and Rs161.10(selling).

It closed at Rs 160.50(buying) and Rs160.60(selling).

The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold was Rs111,700(selling) and Rs111,500(buying) at the local Sarafa (gold) markets of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
