ISLAMABAD: Section 144 was imposed in Islamabad on Wednesday for ensuring strict compliance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to the Covid-19 among the general public and to stop further spread of the virus in the community.
Following imposition of Section 144 in the city, wearing mask in public places has been made mandatory and anyone who is seen without a face mask will be prosecuted under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
According to a notification issued by the district administration, in order to ensure compliance of Covid-19 related SOPs in general public and as per advice of the epidemiologists of DC Covid Nerve Center, and to prevent community spread of viruses and given the rising positivity of coronavirus cases, it has become essential that the general public must use/wear face mask/cover, while visiting public places in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
It says that there are sufficient grounds for proceeding under Section 144 CrPC and immediate prevention of and speedy remedy is justified and the directions hereinafter appearing are necessary.
This order shall come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force for a period of two months.
Any one not wearing face mask in public places can be arrested by police.
