(Karachi) A Lahore's Accountability Court has allowed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to shelve a two-decade-old inquiry against PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif over alleged illegal allotment of 12 plots, local media reported on Wednesday.

The judgment was announced by Judge Jawadul Hassan.

During arguments, the prosecutor told the court that the record related to the case was destroyed in a fire in Lahore Development Authority (LDA) building. He stated there is no evidence to frame charges against Shehbaz Sharif.

He told the court that two accused nominated in the inquiry, Mian Attaullah and Mian Raza Attaullah, have passed away.

Shehbaz Sharif allegedly allotted 12 plots to his favorite persons during his term as Punjab chief minister in 2000.

The LDA acquired the land of Mozu Nawan Kot for Gulshan Ravi Society in 1978 and was to provide 10-marla plots in return. However, the bureau said, one kanal plots were given to favourite persons against the law.
