The government is going to sign off an agreement with a German company, which would manufacture electric buses in Pakistan, informed Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain.

Addressing media on Saturday, the Federal Minister said that the ministry would sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a German electric bus manufacturer on Sunday, which would be the second such company after China’s Skywell Automobile to set up its manufacturing unit in the country.

“Yesterday we signed an MoU with Chinese company Skywell for electric buses,” informed Chaudhry.

Back in August, a Strategic Alliance Agreement was signed between Daewoo Pakistan and Skywell Automobile, China was held. Under the agreement, Skywell Automobiles China and Daewoo Express Pakistan will collaborate to introduce electric buses and other electric vehicles in Pakistan and create a technical support base in the country.

Meanwhile, the minister was of the view that the country needs to increase its exports, in order to achieve economic growth and for that one needs to focus on adopting the technology.

He said that after setting up a medical city in Faisalabad, the ministry’s next target is to establish a medical city in Sialkot for the production of electromagnetic medical goods, such as dialysis machines, x-ray machines, ventilators, etc.

“Pakistan imports some $1.6 billion of medical equipment, and I am hopeful that we would be able to substitute our imports through local manufacturing,” he said.
