ISLAMABAD: Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guaranteed (CPPA-G) has sought an increase of Rs 1.37 per unit in tariffs of Discos for September 2020 under monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism.

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) will hold a public hearing on October 29, 2020 to consider generation data of September 2020 to determine increase in tariff.

According to data submitted to Nepra, in September hydel generation was recorded at 4,872 GWh which constituted 37.18 percent of total generation in the entire month. Power generation from coal-fired power plants was 2,283 GWh (17.42 percent of total generation) at a rate of Rs 6.0262 per unit, HSD 71.70 GWh (0.55 percent of total generation) at a price of Rs 18.7347 per unit, RFO-762.42 GWh (5.82 percent of total generation) at a tariff of Rs 12.4494 per unit.

Electricity generation from gas-based power plants was 1,324.13 GWh (10.10 percent of total generation) at a cost of Rs 6.7705 per unit, RLNG- 2,804.56 GWh (21.40 percent of total generation) at Rs 6.7874 per unit, nuclear- 677.89 GWh at Rs 1.0163 per unit and electricity imported from Iran 46.66 GWh at Rs 10.1504 per unit. The price of mixed generation i.e. from different sources was 11.90 GWh at Rs 6.4751 per unit, and baggasse was recorded at Rs 5.9822 per unit.

The energy generated from wind was recorded at 175.09 GWh, 1.34 percent of total generation and solar at 61.75 GWh, just 0.41 percent of total generation in September.

The total energy generated recorded at 13,103.8 GWh, at a basket price of Rs 4.1140 per unit. The total cost of energy was Rs 53.909 billion.

The sale to IPPs was reduced to 15.11 GWh, the price of which was Rs 349 million (Rs 0.0219 per unit) while cost of reduced transmission losses was Rs 365.73 million at Rs 0.1176 per unit.

The CPPA-G shows that net electricity delivered to Discos in September was 12,723 GWh at a rate of Rs 4.2097 per unit, total price of which was Rs 53.560 billion.

CPPA-G maintains that since the reference fuel charges for August 2020 were estimated at Rs 2.8410 per unit whereas the actual fuel charges were Rs 4.2097 per unit, hence an increase of Rs 1.3687 per unit is sought under monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism.
