KARACHI: Despite foreign selling, Pakistan Stock Exchange Monday witnessed a positive trend on the back of fresh buying, mainly by local investors.

BRIndex100 gained 19.23 points or 0.46 percent to close at 4,183.75 points. BRIndex100 hit intraday high of 4,199.45 and intraday low of 4,151.95 points. Volumes stood at 252.744 million shares.

BRIndex30 inched up by 94.09 points or 0.44 percent to close at 21,257.58 points with a turnover of 191.822 million shares.

The KSE-100 Index increased by 176.15 points or 0.44 percent to close at 40,340.17 points. Trading activity also improved as daily volumes on ready counter increased to 319.563 million shares as compared to 254.204 million shares traded on previous session.

Foreign investors however remained net sellers of shares worth $1.072 million. Total market capitalization increased by Rs 23 billion to Rs 7.511 trillion. Out of total 392 active scrips, 233 closed in positive and 140 in negative while the value of 19 stocks remained unchanged.

Unity Foods was the volume leader with 53.658 million shares and increased by Rs 1.28 to close at Rs 19.00 followed by Pak Int. Bulk Terminal that gained Rs 0.76 to close at Rs 12.91 with 36.636 million shares. Sapphire Textile and Mari Petroleum were the top gainers increasing by Rs 33.08 and Rs 33.02 respectively to close at Rs 773.09 and Rs 1324.76 while Bata Pak and Indus Dyeing were the top losers declining by Rs 30.00 and Rs 27.80 respectively to close at Rs 1620.00 and Rs 550.00.

BR Automobile Assembler Index increased by 78.83 points or 1.05 percent to close at 7,557.12 points with total turnover of 2.391 million shares. BR Cement Index lost 3.22 points or 0.06 percent to close at 5,680.42 points with 14.043 million shares. BR Commercial Banks Index fell by 13.97 points or 0.17 percent to close at 8,336.68 points with 5.586 million shares.

BR Power Generation and Distribution Index closed at 4,713.07 points, down 4.57 points or 0.1 percent with 13.433 million shares.

BR Oil and Gas Index gained 29.25 points or 0.77 percent to close at 3,852.17 points with 23.695 million shares.

BR Tech. & Comm. Index inched up by 1.29 points or 0.08 percent to close at 1,687.14 points with 16.251 million shares.

Danish Ladhani at JS Global Capital said that the KSE-100 Index gained 176 points after making a high and a low of plus 327 and minus 86 points to close at 40,340 levels. Market remained volatile with low volumes and low participation ahead of FATF and political uncertainty.

Major gainers were ENGRO (up 2.9 percent), EFERT (up 2.7 percent), MARI (up 2.6 percent), MEBL (up 2.4 percent), OGDC (up 0.7 percent) and SHELL (up 7.5 percent) contributed to the positive index close.
