Toyota surges, Suzuki declines as Pakistan auto sector gains momentum

  • According to the Automobile Industry Report by PAMA, the automobile industry of Pakistan recovered with a 20% month-on-month increase in passenger car sales in September 2020.

The Automobile Industry Report by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) shows signs of recovery in the automobile industry of Pakistan with an increase in passenger car sales.

In the month of September 2020, 11,860 passenger cars were sold, indicating an almost 20% increase as compared to passenger car sales in August 2020. Moreover, passenger car sales were also 10% higher than sales in September 2019.

Sales for passenger cars that were 1300cc and above also increased in September 2020 as compared to passenger car sales last month and year. Moreover for 1000cc cars, a month-on-month decline in sales by around 8.7% and a year-on-year increase of about 9.3% was observed. Cars below 1000cc showed a month-on-month surge and a year-on-year decline in sales.

While Toyota reported a year-on-year surge due to the introduction of Toyota Yaris, Suzuki experienced a decline in sales as it discontinued Suzuki Mehran.
