COVID-19 positivity rate rises above four percent in Karachi: CM Murad

  • Chief minister says Sindh government has sealed 224 restaurants across the province for violating coronavirus SOPs

(Karachi) Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that the coronavirus positivity rate has risen above four percent in Karachi in the last five days. He urged people to cooperate with the authorities in following coronavirus precautionary measures.

Briefing National Coordination Committee (NCC) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad on Monday, the chief minister said that Sindh has conducted 14,64,598 Covid-19 tests so far and the province conducting around 20,000 tests on a daily basis.

“2,549 people have died from coronavirus in the province so far, while 4,808 people are still under treatment as they battle against COVID-19,” said Murad.

He highlighted that the Covid-19 positive rate was recorded at 4.32 percent in Karachi and 3.24 in Hyderabad in the last five days.

He said that the Sindh government has sealed 224 restaurants across the province for violating coronavirus SOPs, 20 wedding halls have been fined, 12 sealed while 97 were given a warning.

On Monday, the total active COVID-19 cases in the country were recorded 8,552, as 385 more people tested positive for the deadly virus during the last 24 hours.

At least 10 corona patients, six of whom were under treatment died in hospital, as per National command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

Some 26,951 tests were conducted across the country, including 8,497 in Sindh, 11,082 in Punjab, 3,141 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 2,855 in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), 661 in Balochistan, 232 in Gilgit Baltistan (GB), and 483 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
