NAB wants Nawaz Sharif's National Identity Card to be blocked

  • NAB approached NADRA in this regard.
Published October 9, 2020 Updated October 10, 2020

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) approached NADRA on Friday to block the National Identity Card (NIC) of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

The bureau said that the accountability court has already declared Sharif a proclaimed offender in the Toshakhana reference. NAB asked the authority to block Sharif's NIC, Aaj News reported.

On September 9, the court declared Sharif a proclaimed offender and said that his case is going to be separated from others involved in the case. The court also sought details of his movable and immovable assets within a week from NAB.

Later it ordered forfeiting assets and properties of the former PM. The assets forfeited following the directives of the court include a Mercedes car, Land Cruisers, tractors, bungalow in Murree and 102 Kanals agriculture land in Sheikhupura.

The bureau has accused Yousaf Raza Gilani of illegally allotting cars to Asif Ali Zardari and Sharif. NAB has alleged that Gillani facilitated Zardari and Sharif in obtaining cars from Toshakhana by paying 15 percent of the price of the cars.

Sharif has been in London since last year. The Islamabad High Court has already issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the former PM in the Al-Azizia case.
