ISLAMABAD: The top court on Wednesday adjourned the incarcerated Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah’s bail plea without any proceedings after the defence lawyer sought adjournment.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan headed by Justice Mushir Alam comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmed heard the case filed by Khursheed Shah and his son.

When Justice Alam said that there was an adjournment request from a lawyer, the counsel for Shah, Farooq H Naek, said he had no objection if adjournment is given the next hearing as well.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had also approached the apex court against the decision to grant bail to Shah’s two wives, two sons, and a son-in-law in the reference.

According to the National Accountability Bureau on receipt of multiple complaints against the petitioner, Khursheed Shah MNA that he was the richest man in Sindh beyond his known sources of income, the NAB conducted inquiry and investigation, whereby collected the evidence against him and filed a reference at a NAB court in Sukkur. He was nominated the accused No 1 in the Reference No 17/2019 along with 17 others. The petitioner/accused in connivance with other co-accused persons accumulated assets beyond their known sources to the tune of Rs1,229,449,803, which are disproportionate to their known sources of income.
