Ukraine says it could export gas to Europe this winter

KYIV: Ukraine, which has collected a record volume of natural gas in underground storage, may export to the European Union this winter if market conditions are favourable, state-run company Ukrtransgaz said on Monday.
Ukraine's gas transit operator said last week natural gas reserves had reached a record 28 billion cubic metres (bcm) on Sept. 29, the highest level in the last 10 years.
"We do not exclude that in case of a favourable situation in the European market, Ukraine will start exporting gas to the EU countries," Ukrtransgaz acting director Serhiy Pereloma said.
The government has said an unusually warm winter had allowed the country to store a significant volume of gas underground.
Ukraine, a traditional route for Russian gas to Europe, is able to store around 30 bcm of gas in its storage facilities, mostly located in the west of the country.
