ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday oversaw award of contracts by the Universal Service Fund (USF) for provision of Voice and High Speed Mobile Broadband Data services in the provinces of Balochistan and Sindh.

The contract was signed by the USF, Ufone and Jazz.

The prime minister speaking as chief guest after the signing ceremony termed it a very positive step, saying this fits in the government’s vision to lift the undeveloped and poverty-ridden areas.

The prime minister said that lopsided and elite-specific planning in the country had very negative impact on the society.

The prime minister said that the connectivity was the best way to lift the people of the under-developed areas, and the information technology plays a fundamental role in uplifting the less-developed people and areas through connectivity.

Virtual education system during the Covid-19 was a very positive development to provide education.

He said that Digital Pakistan was the future of the country, and the IT parks idea is very important and would have positive impact on export of IT as low export was a very big handicap for the country, and focus on the IT sector could increase the country’s exports.—
