ISLAMABAD: Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guaranteed (CPPA-G) has sought an increase of Re 0.99 per unit in tariffs of Discos for August 2020 under monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism.
National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) will hold a public hearing on September 30, 2020 to consider generation data of August 2020 to determine increase in tariff.
According to the data submitted to Nepra, in August hydel generation was recorded at 5,469.55 GWh which constituted 37.39 per cent of total generation in the entire month. Power generation from coal-fired power plants was 2,530.30 GWh ( 17 per cent of total generation) at rate of Rs 6.0317 per unit, HSD- 97.76 GWh ( 0.67 per cent of total generation) at a price of Rs 19.4315 per unit, RFO- 792.38 GWh (5.42 per cent of total generation) at a tariff of Rs 12.2343 per unit.
Electricity generation from gas-based power plants was 1,402.45 GWh (9.59 per cent of total generation) at a cost of Rs 7.0358 per unit, RLNG - 3,058 GWh ( 20.90 per cent of total generation) at Rs 7.0246 per unit, nuclear- 817 GWh at Rs 1.0012 per unit and electricity imported from Iran 52 GWH at Rs 10.2175 per unit. The price of mixed generation i.e. from different sources 20.26 GWh was Rs 6.6505 per unit, baggasse was recorded at Rs 5.9822 per unit.
The energy generated from wind was recorded at 310.13 GWh, 2.12 per cent of total generation and solar at 60 GWh, just 0.41 per cent of total generation in August.
The total energy generated was recorded at 16,630 GWh, at a basket price of Rs 4.0881 per unit. The total cost of energy was Rs 59.809 billion.
CPPA-G has also sought previous adjustment of Rs 230 million which constitutes Rs 0.0157 per unit . The sale to IPPs was reduced by 23.49 GWh, the price of which was Rs 557 million ( Rs 0.0316 per unit) while cost of reduced transmission losses was Rs 407.4 million of Rs 0.1168 per unit. The CPPA-G revealed net electricity delivered to Discos in August was 14,199.2 GWh at a rate of Rs 4.1891 per unit, total price of which was Rs 59.482 billion.
CPPA-G maintained that since the reference fuel charges for August 2020 were estimated at Rs 3.2045 per unit whereas the actual fuel charges were Rs 4.1891 per unit, hence an increase of Rs 0.9846 per unit has been sought under monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism.
