LAHORE: Punjab Environment Protection Minister Muhammad Rizwan has said that the government is planning to ban smoke emitting vehicles for 10-15 days from plying on roads instead of imposing fine only.
He said a public awareness campaign would soon be launched for the masses to control the menace of smog and before the closure of public and private vehicles.
The minister was talking to media persons here on Wednesday after meeting a delegation of some welfare organizations at his office. The delegation comprises representatives of Proud Pakistan Foundation, Bargad, Agahee, PPF, Youth Advocacy Network and students from the Punjab University.
The minister said we all have to play an active role in educating the people about the importance of tree planting and certainly the role of welfare agencies in working with the government is commendable. He said that they want to form a working group for the control of environmental pollution in collaboration with the welfare organizations.
He said people need to be made more aware about the importance of tree planting so that the dream of a clean and green Pakistan could come true. He said that he wanted to enhance the awareness campaign through seminars etc.
All the representatives of social organization assured full cooperation with the environment department.
