PESHAWAR: A steep increase in prices of sugar, flour, chicken meat, pulses, vegetables, fruits and others was witnessed in the retail market, according to a survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Sunday. Price of sugar has touched a new peak as available at Rs110 per kilogramme which was selling at Rs94 per kilogramme in open market and Rs72 per kilogramme in utility stores, while stock of sugar was also vanished in the utility stores, the survey noticed.

A 20 kg flour sac is being sold at Rs1300-1350 in the retail market while flour bag weight [80 kg] also increased at Rs6500 in the wholesale market, the survey revealed. It added fine flour (maida) was available at Rs70-75 per kg in the open market.

A noticeable increase in prices of poultry products, live chicken/meat was witnessed in the open market as available Rs156 per kilogramme as the wedding halls reopened under the strict SOPs in the provincial capital. The survey noticed the upward trend in prices of vegetables. Ginger is being sold at Rs600-650 per kg garlic at Rs200-250 per kg; tomatoes are being sold at Rs100 per kg, onion at Rs70 per kg. Cucumber was available at Rs70 per kg, lemon at Rs120 per kg, green chilli at Rs200 per kg in the open market.

Furthermore, the survey revealed that peas is being sold at Rs250 per kg, arvi at Rs120 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs120 per kg, bitter gourd at Rs100 per kg, red potato at Rs90 per kg, tinda at Rs80, long gourd at Rs70 per kg, round gourd at Rs90 per kg, old seasonal potato at Rs70 per kg, bringle at Rs100 per kg.

A noticeable increase in prices of pulses/food grains also noticed, the survey said. Good quality rice (sela) was available at Rs160 per kg, which was selling at Rs140 per kg in the previous week, while tota rice was available at Rs80-90 per kg. Gram flour (baisen) is being sold within the range of Rs100-120 and Rs130 per kg in the retail market.

Dal mash is being sold at Rs280-300 per kg, big-size white chana was Rs160 per kg, dal chilka (green) at Rs140 per kg, dal chilka (black) at Rs160 per kg. Moonge was available at Rs200 per kg. Dhoti dal is being sold at Rs240 per kg.

According to the survey, the price of cooking oil/ghee remained high-side in the retail market as available within range of Rs170 and Rs180 per litre/kg, and Rs190 and Rs200 per litre/kg.

Apples are being sold at Rs140-150 per kg against the price of Rs80 per kg, mangoes within range of Rs100-120 and Rs150, apricot at Rs250 per kg against the rate of Rs160 per kg, the survey noticed. Similarly, bananas were available at Rs100-150 per dozen against the price of Rs70-80 per dozen, grapes are being sold at Rs300 per kg, guava was available at Rs120-150 per kg against the price of Rs80 per kg.

Likewise, according to the survey, milk sellers are openly defying official prices of milk and yogurt, fixed by local administration at Rs90 and Rs80 respectively. The survey was noticed that fresh milk was available at Rs130-140 per litre which was selling at Rs120 per litre against the aforementioned official prices.
