ISLAMABAD: Former president and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari Friday paid Rs2,891,455 tax and his son PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari paid Rs294,117 tax during Tax Year 2018, according to the Tax Directory released by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Friday.
However, the spokesman of the former president Asif Ali Zardari has issued a clarification about the tax figures issued by the FBR.
The spokesman said that Asif Ali Zardari paid Rs2,218,229 in 2018 as his income tax only.
In addition to that he paid Rs19,987,335 as agriculture tax in 2018.
Thus, the amount of the total tax paid by Asif Ali Zardari in 2018 is Rs22,255,064.
The FBR has said that for the year 2018, the former president paid only Rs2,218,229 as tax, which is incorrect as he also paid agriculture tax of Rs1,99,87,221, and a total of Rs22,255,064.
Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Mian Shahbaz Sharif paid Rs9,730,545, and Muhammad Hamza Shahbaz Sharif paid Rs8,705,368 taxes.
Former prime minister and PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi paid the highest tax of Rs241,329,362, the PML-N Secretary General and MNA Ahsan Iqbal paid Rs357,100 tax, former deputy speaker National Assembly of PML-N Murtaza Javed Abbasi paid Rs754,994, other PML-N leaders Khawaja Muhammad Asif paid Rs4,371,129, Khurram Dastgir Khan paid Rs316,933, Rana Sanaullah Khan paid Rs1,388,275, Rana Tanveer Hussain paid Rs386,751, Khawaja Saad Rafiq paid Rs2,949,200, former speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq paid Rs385,437, and PML-N Spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb paid Rs281,883 tax etc.
PPP leaders including former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf paid Rs267,380, Syed Naveed Qamar paid Rs208,689, former opposition leader Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah paid Rs305,100, Nawab Yousaf Talpur paid Rs233,898, Abdul Qadir Patel paid Rs4,792, Dr Nafisa Shah paid Rs321,651, Shazia Marri paid Rs183,900, Hina Rabbani Khar paid total tax by AoPs in which taxpayer is a member Rs2,351,444, and Mir Munawwar Ali Talpur paid Rs252,892 tax etc.
Asad Mahmood son of Maulana Fazlur Rahman of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) paid Rs7,000 tax.
