LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has made it mandatory for consumers to pay 70 percent of the outstanding amount of an electricity bill against the earlier facility of two installments of 50 percent each during lockdown, said sources.
Similarly, no facility of payment of electricity bill in installment would be available on the bills due to be paid over the last three months, they added. The Company has posted a notice to this effect at the central customer centre.
Poor consumers have expressed their worry over the development, saying it was not possible for them to pay 70 percent of the outstanding amount in one go against a bill. They said the Company was dividing the outstanding amount in two installments of 50 percent each during the lockdown which was easy to pay for them. However, this limit has been enhanced to 70 percent after the lifting of the lockdown, they added.
They have further pointed out that this facility has also been withdrawn from the SDO and ExEn offices and they are forced to queue up at the head office after covering long distances from various parts of the city.
They have appealed to the prime minister, Minister for Power and CEO LESCO to resume the facility of easy installments forthwith. However, the Customer Care Centre officials are of the view that the facility of payment in installments cannot be extended to consumers every month. Instead, the rules and regulations permit such offer once in six months.
