LAHORE: With 158 new Covid-19 positive cases and four deaths across the province in the last 24 hours, Punjab has reported 96,391 cases so far and 2,192 deaths in total. As per the government's Covid-19 portal, about 896,428 tests have been conducted so far across the province while 8,461 tests conducted during the last 24 hours.

As per the data made available to Business Recorder, as many as 1139 more patients have recovered from the virus taking the tally of recovered patients to 92,289 in Punjab. In Lahore, as many as 48,622 positive cases have been reported with 848 fatalities. In Rawalpindi, 7,687 cases have been reported with 365 deaths so far.

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said here Tuesday Prime Minister Imran Khan's smart lock down policy proved successful in containing Covid-19 spread in the country, but we have not completely defeated Corona. Public should continue observing the government SOPs to prevent the spread of coronavirus during Muharram. We all have to defeat coronavirus by strictly following the SOPs, he said.

Moreover, Punjab Emergency Service DG while reviewing arrangements for providing emergency cover to mourning processions of Muharram, directed all DEOs to restrict the leaves of the rescuers, implement Code Red on 9th and 10th of Muharram and emergency cover while strictly observing Corona Emergency Response protocols to all major processions. As per emergency plans over 11,000 rescuers will perform their duties during 9th and 10th Muharram who will provide cover to over 1,000 processions/events.
