KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 120,062 tonnes of cargo comprising 73,803 tonnes of import cargo and 46,259 tonnes of export cargo including 5,338 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargos of 73,803 tonnes comprised of 47,319 tonnes of containerised cargo; 520 tonnes of general cargo; 18,153 tonnes of bulk cargo and 7,811 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 46,259 tonnes comprised of 16,692 tonnes of containerised cargo 20,567 tonnes of bulk cargo and 9,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,338 containers comprising of 2,883 containers of import and 2,455 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,132 of 20's and 821 of 40's loaded while 19 of 20's and 45 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 378 of 20's and 199 of 40's loaded containers while 341 of 20's and 669 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were four ships namely Torm Platte, Grace, Feng Huang Seng and Ocean Star carrying oil tanker clinkers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were five vessels carrying containers, oil tanker, clinkers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 168,590 tonnes comprising of 134,637 tonnes of import cargo and 33,953 tonnes of export cargo including 4,248 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 134,637 tonnes includes 4,862 tonnes of gasoline; 54,269 tonnes of coal; 5,500 tonnes of palm oil; 3,021 tonnes of palm kernel; 7,137 tonnes of soyabean; 2,500 tonnes of chemical and 47,348 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 33,953 tonnes includes 589 tonnes of cement and 33,364 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 4,248 containers comprising of 2,492 containers import and 1,756 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

There were three ships namely MOL Generosity, Sovereign and ES Star carrying containers, gasoline and palm oil respectively sail out to sea on Friday morning, while three more ships namely Rhodos, Crimson Ace and Tiger Winter carrying coal, soyabean and chemical respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of ten ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, soyabean, palm kernel and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as eleven vessels viz. King Cotton, Huang Song, Sea Melody, Tron Gan, Kamari, Valiant Splendor, Gas Amazon, BW Colombia, Sereno, Al-Salam-II and Sea Hazel carrying steel coil, coal, cement, canola, LPG, gasoline, gas oil and crude oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were three ships viz. Sea Melody, Valiant Splendor and BW Colombia carrying coal, canola and gasoline respectively expected to take berths at Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, Grain & Fertilizer Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Friday. There are no ships due to arrive on Friday.
