KARACHI: Directorate Intelligence and Investigation (DI&I), Customs Quetta, on Tuesday claimed to have seized substantial quantities of smuggled goods including betel nuts worth Rs 70 million.

According to details, the action was taken on a tip-off, which revealed that some unscrupulous elements were planning to transport smuggled goods from Quetta to other parts of the country.

Reacting on this information, a team has been constituted to thwart interprovincial smuggling bids through stiff vigilance.

In a week span, the DI&I Quetta made three different seizures involving smuggled goods worth Rs70 million.

The department has confiscated a Toyota Land Cruiser ZX V8 worth Rs 18 million near Jalogir on Quetta Chaman Road. Similarly, a truck near Kalat City on RCD highway was intercepted and the department has recovered miscellaneous smuggled goods worth Rs18.28 million. Another truck was intercepted near Badrang Levies Check Post on RCD Highway and recovered betel nuts worth Rs33 million.

Consequent upon recovery, cases have been registered and further investigation is in progress.
