ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet which is scheduled to meet Tuesday (Aug 18) with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair, will discuss the government's two-year performance on different fronts and share its achievements with the media and public.
Well-informed sources told Business Recorder, the issue of Pak-Saudi relations, especially after public criticism by Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi will be one of the hot topics of cabinet meeting. The criticism of Minister for Human Rights, Dr. Shireen Mazari on Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its failure to highlight Kashmir issue will come under discussion.
Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Director General, ISI, Lt. General, Faiz Hameed, currently in Saudi Arabia, are making efforts to repair the damaged relations with Saudi Arabia.
At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister will share with the cabinet colleagues that difficult time is over as economy is now out of danger and now good times are ahead for the people.
The MoUs signed with the Independent Power Producers, meant to review their contracts under the agreed conditions, will be discussed and will be placed before the public as a great success.
The Sindh High Court judgment on scrapping Sugar Commission and its report and future line of action, will also be part of the discussion.
The prices and availability of sugar and wheat will also come discussion including import of both commodities.
The country's political situation, especially, the protest of Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the daughter for former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, outside NAB office, Lahore and constitution of a joint committee of three political parties of Sindh to resolve Karachi issues will also be on the table.
The Ministry of Law and Justice will give presentation on disqualification of parliamentarians' to be members of boards, authorities and Commission etc. Many PTI parliamentarians are making efforts to acquire membership on the boards of different organizations aimed at using their clout for their personal benefits which is conflict of interest.
The Power Division will give a presentation about reconstitution of Discos Boards. Power Division has already constituted a board of five Discos, whereas Boards of three Discos are pending.
Some of the Parliamentarians of PTI want to become board members of Discos of their respective areas whereas others want their loyalists on such positions.
Finance Division, will give presentation on pension fund. The purpose of this proposal will be to establish a fund which will be invested and its profits will be shared with the employees instead of giving them pension at retirement. IMF has already suggested to government to take measures to contain the annual allocation on pensions as a huge amount of budget is spent under this head.
The cabinet will extend application of Pakistan Essential Services (Maintenance) Act, 1952 to the employees of Pakistan Security Printing Corporation (PSPC) and Security Papers Limited (SPL) Karachi.
Declaration of Services of Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) employees as essential services under Pakistan Essential Services (Maintenance), Act 1952 will also be approved.
Extension in application of Pakistan Essential Services (Maintenance), Act 1952 to all employees under National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT) Pvt. is also expected.
Other issues of public interest are also expected to be discussed by the cabinet including implementation on the decisions taken during the last two years.
