PESHAWAR: Prices of essential food commodities, including, sugar, flour, chicken meat, fruits, eggs, vegetable, pulses and others remain high side in retail market, it was revealed in a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday.
The survey witnessed that the price of sugar has surged up at Rs100-105 per kg, which was selling at Rs80 per kg a few weeks ago in the retail market. Similarly, prices of flour, maida (fine flour) has also jumped at Rs65-70 per kg from Rs55-60 per kg in the local market.
Keeping in view the increasing prices of flour, oven makers have increased the price of Roti (bread) from Rs10 to Rs15 despite displaying the district administration and Nanbai Association unanimous fixed official price of Rs10 per Roti.
Live chicken/meat was available at Rs151 per kg, while a dozen of farm eggs were available within range of Rs110-120 per dozen in local markets, the survey said. Milk sellers have increased unilateral prices of milk and yogurt, opening defying the orders/fixed prices of Rs90 and Rs80 respectively. The survey was noticed that fresh milk was available at Rs130-140 per litre which was selling at Rs120 per litre against the aforementioned official prices.
A mixed trend in prices of veggies was witnessed in the previous week. According to the survey, the price of ginger has decreased at Rs400 per kg which was selling at Rs600 per kg in last week. Garlic was available at Rs250 per kg against the price of Rs300 per kg in the previous week.
Onion is being sold at Rs40-50 per kg against the price of Rs80 per kg. Green chilli was available at Rs200 per kg which was selling at Rs250 per kg. Tomato is being sold at Rs40-50 per kg against the price of Rs80-90 per kg in the previous week. Cucumber is being sold at Rs60 per kg against the price of Rs80 per kg a few days back.
The survey further witnessed that the price of red-potatoes are being sold at Rs 80-100 per kg which was selling at Rs40 per kg. Arvi was available at Rs150 per kg; peas at Rs 250-300 per kg, apple, round and other gourds were being sold within range of Rs80-100 per kg, bitter gourd at Rs120 per kg. Bringle was priced at Rs60 per kg.
Gram flour (baisen) was available at Rs140 per kg against the price of Rs120 per kg in the retail market. According to the survey, the prices of pulses/food grains remained unchanged in the retail market. Good quality rice (sela) is being sold at Rs 140-150 per kg, while tota rice was available at Rs75-80 per kg.
The price of big-size white channa was Rs140 and Rs160 per kg, while dal chilka (green) was being sold at Rs140 and Dal Chilka (Black) being sold at Rs130 per kg. Moonge was available at Rs140 per kg. Dhoti dal is being sold at Rs160.
According to the survey, the price of cooking oil/ghee remained high-side in the retail market as available within range of Rs170 and Rs180 per litre/kg, and Rs190 and Rs200 per litre/kg. Fruits are staple food, which have become costlier and completely reach out from the purchasing power of the common man.
The survey revealed the prices of fruits have become costlier during the Eid days. For instance, apples are being sold at Rs140-150 per kg against the price of Rs80 per kg, mangoes within range of Rs100-120 and Rs150, apricot at Rs250 per kg against the rate of Rs160 per kg.
