Klopp unhappy with Premier League champions medal rule

"I don't know who came up with that [rule]. Even if you have played one game you should have a medal,” says the Liverpool manager.

It looks like Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is unhappy with Premier League winners’ medal rule he vowed to make sure every squad member get the silverware, even if he has to give up his own.

As per the rule, the players only guaranteed their medal by making a minimum of five appearances throughout the season.

Which means that number of young players could miss out, with the club handed only 40 pieces to distribute between the dressing room and backroom staff.

Talking to reporters, Klopp vowed to find a way to reward the fringe members of his squad.

"I don't know who came up with that [rule]. Even if you have played one game you should have a medal,” said the Liverpool manager.

"If the people don't understand how important a squad is to win a championship then I cannot help them to be honest,” he said.

Klopp added: "If you are the second goalie and have had less games, you should get a medal.”

“I could produce it by myself. They can have my medal, but it's not really the rule,” said the 53-year-old. "Somebody decided you have to have five games for a medal?'

He added: "These boys will get a medal - 100 per cent.

"I could produce it by myself. They can have my medal, but it's not really the rule.”

21 members of the Reds are eligible for medal with five game to go.

Meanwhile, Curtis Jones played his third league game of the season when scoring off the bench against Villa with fellow youngsters Neco Williams and Harvey Elliott on three and two, respectively.

Clubs can fork out themselves for extra medals or designate some of the 40 to players with fewer appearances.
