Terming it a ‘landmark achievement’, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhary On Monday has said that the first batch of domestically produced Ventilators SafeVent have been handed over to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

As per details, portable ventilator SafeVent SP 100 is FDA/CE approved economical and reliable ventilator. The National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) has already produced 15 units of SafeVent SP 100 and has a production capacity to manufacture 250 –300 units per month.

NRTC has become the first organization in Pakistan which has indigenously developed and started local manufacturing of “SafeVent SP100”.

Earlier on June 28, the minister said in a video statement that Pakistan has joined the ranks of those few countries which are producing their own ventilators. The first batch of ventilators manufactured in Pakistan will be delivered to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in the coming week, he said.

The development takes place at a time when coronavirus has unleashed devastation across Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB).

According to official data, there were 228,474 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Pakistan by Sunday evening including 2,419 critical cases and 4,712 deaths. As many as 3,191 fresh Covid-19 cases surfaced in the last 24 hours (till Sunday evening) and 93 deaths were recorded in 24 hours. Some 129,830 patients have recovered from this pandemic, so far.
