CHITRAL: Continued rain and heavy snowfall have brought the mercury down in Chitral and made the life harsh for people living in the mountainous region.
The lone land route Lowari Pass was blocked at Lowari Tunnel due to heavy snowfall and disconnected Chitral from other parts of the cournty.
The tunnel remained closed for all kinds of vehicular traffic since Monday and long queues of vehicles were seen in wait for the tunnel to be reopened.
District Police Officer Chitral told APP on Tuesday that around 5 to 6 inches of snowfall was recorded on both sides of Lowari tunnel and many of the vehicles have been stuck in the snow. He advised the people to evade travelling towards and from Chitral to Peshawar nowadays to avoid inconvenience.
The snowfall and intermittent rains have also affected the smooth supply of electricity to the area that has also forced the rehabilitation process at Lowari tunnel.
