Senate elections should be held in free, transparent manner: Javed Abbasi

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Javed Abbasi said Monday that Senate of Pakistan was the symbol of federation and its elections should be held in free and transparent manner.
Talking to PTV, he said the political parties should avoid horse-trading before and during the Senate elections, adding that it was the collective responsibility of the all political parties to work for strengthening democratic system and avoid stealing mandate of any political party.
He said the political parties should learn from past mistakes and give tickets to educated people and those who were always loyal with their parties.
He alleged that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Asif Ali Zardari had played a negative role in the recent change in Balochistan government.
Javed Abbasi expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of renowned lawyer and human rights activist Asma Jahangir and termed her death a great loss to democracy.
He said Asma Jahangir had always struggled for the rule of law.
