Spot basis bids for hard red winter wheat held steady Friday in a quiet market. Producers were selling both old crop and new crop as the production outlook for the summer harvest continued to improve in key growing areas. Farmers were actively treating fields with fungicides after signs of disease in some areas. But overall crop health appeared strong."Everybody is still pretty optimistic," said one Kansas wheat merchant.
There was chatter that this year's crop may be lower in protein content than last year's.
