The second edition of Pakistan Champion's Cricket League will explode into action under lights at RLCA Ground Korangi from May 20, organisers announced at a joint news conference here on Friday. "A lucrative prize money of US $35,000 will be at the offer in the league," Sindh Youth Minister Faisal Sabzwari told reporters at a local hotel here.
"Besides top local Pakistan clubs, teams from Afghanistan, Canada, Sharjah, Saudi Arabia would be seen in action," he said. Apart from Karachi, top clubs from Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Sialkot, FATA, Hyderabad, Burewala, Peshawar, Rahim Yar Khan, Abbotabad, Faisalabad and Multan would also be seen in action. The minister said efforts are afoot to get clubs teams from Bangladesh to take part in the event to give it an international colour.
He said the winners of the league will get US $20,000, runners-up $10,000 and losing semi-finalist $2000 each. Prize money may be enhanced, he added. Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad will be the chief guest at the inaugural match between Karachi XI and Showbiz XI.
Faisal Sabzwari recalled that former City Nazim Syed Mustufa Kamal, former Pakistan cricket captain Rashid Latif, MNA Asif Hasnain with the support from district administration of Landhi/Korangi and the defunct City Government had launched the event last year with 33 top clubs from across the country taking part in the Rs 15 million event. He said the matches of the league will be played at different ground of RCLA under lights to provide public entertainment. He informed that all the foreign and outstations teams will be given boarding and lodging and other facilities.
