Bhoja's fleet two-decade old?

Published Updated

Although the licence of Bhoja Air issued by CAA remained valid for domestic flights, the airline decided to suspend its operations in 2001 due to severe financial constraints. Eleven years later, Bhoja Air, which is still under the debt of Rs 80 million, restarted its operations on Islamabad-Karachi sector on March 30, 2012, sources privy to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) told Business Recorder.
Sources also said the airline has four Boeing 737, including B4-213 of Bhoja Airline that crashed at Koral Chowk near Islamabad Express Highway in Rawalpindi on Friday, and added that the fleet of Bhoja was over two-decade old and that it was purchased from South Africa.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Captain Nadeem Yousuf Zia, has ordered an inquiry into the crash of a Bhoja Air passenger plane. This was stated by a spokesman for the CAA, Pervez George. According to him, a CAA inquiry team has already left for the site of the crash.
