The unscheduled electricity had become a permanent feature rather fate of this export-oriented city and hub of cottage industry of the country. The forced electricity loadshedding of 14 hours not only hitting industrial sector adversely but also generating fast economic constrains for the employers and employees especially the daily wagers.
Apart from these domestic consumers especially the student and small businessmen were adversely affected by the prolonged loadshedding. It was observed that most the daily wagers and small traders had become physiological patient due to this load shedding, increased tariff of electricity, and price hike in the areas. The daily wagers and labourers were the adverse affectees of price hike and load shedding in the city.
The crime rate and other social evils had been increased to manifolds due to the menace of loadshedding and it is learned that 80 percent cases are untraceable and people are feeling insecure as a result of deteriorated law and order situation in Sialkot district.
Meanwhile, trade bodies including Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) are considering holding a strong protest and sit-in in Islamabad for exemption of industrial towns like Gujrat, Gujranwala and Sialkot the golden triangle of Punjab.
The exporters, manufacturers and trades as well as general public were considering to stop payment electricity bills till the exemption of the industrial towns from load shedding. According to the experts, the hydro power potential of the country is around 55,000 megawatt but the potential is not being optimally utilised creating acute electricity crisis. The exporters, manufacturers and traders said the government should focus on power generation through hydel resources to put permanent end to electricity crisis and to control its price.
