The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration is now engaged in using various tactics to pressurise Defence of Human Rights (DHR) to end their protest camp from outside National Press Club (NPC). It has already banned protests around D Chowk citing security reasons.
"The ICT administration a few days ago shifted the missing persons' camp from D-Chowk to outside the NPC on the directives of Interior Ministry. The move was aimed to avert protest demonstrations near the Parliament House. But now the ICT administration is also trying to remove the missing persons camp located in front of NPC due to fear that rallies by a growing number of people (including against inflation, load shedding, sectarian and ethnic killings) may join the missing persons camp thereby further strengthening their campaign which might be difficult to control", said an official. The press club is located near the Red Zone and the official stated that there is a possibility that missing persons might march towards Parliament House along with other protesters. "The senior officials of ICT administration are making efforts to remove the camp", he said.
DHR chairperson Amna Masood Janjua talking to Business Recorder also said that the administration was pressurising them through various channels to remove the protest camp from outside the press club but she added that relatives of missing persons will continue their protest till the recovery of their loved ones. " DHR will write an open letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of shifting of missing persons camp from D-Chowk and brutal attitude of the city administration", she added.
