Former Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) and Leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chaudhry Tanveer Khan said civil society organisations are playing a vital role in providing primary health care to the poor of the country. He was speaking as a chief guest at the fund raising dinner of Al-Mustafa Trust sponsored by a local philanthropist and organised by Al-Mustafa Trust management in Topi Rakh Auditorium Rawalpindi on Thursday.
The PML-N leader appreciated the achievements of Al-Mustafa Trust in health sector and lauded its clear-cut mission and well defined objectives. Earlier, Lieutenant General Ghulam Muhammad Malik, chairman Al-Mustafa Trust said that the Trust focuses on primary health care. Its programme delivery was considered truly commendable, especially, the component of Rural Medical Centres through participatory approach of local community which is very impressive, he said.
He said that the establishment of 10 Medical Centres throughout the country (seven in Punjab, two in Sindh and one in KP) in a period of 13 years speaks very high of the management of Al-Mustafa Trust and its dedication to serve the poor people of Pakistan. He apprised the audience of the Trust's mission and objectives and its performance since its inception in 1999. He highlighted that the annual expenditure for treatment and allied facilities had risen from about Rs 600,000/- in 1999 to approximately Rs 35 million in 2011. All this expenditure is met through donations received from friends in Pakistan and abroad.
