Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is optimistic that the party will get rid of drone strikes in tribal areas of the country if voted to power through perseverance and sincerity of purpose for a long-lasting solution to the issue. Talking to Business Recorder on Thursday.
PTI Secretary General Dr Arif Alvi said that the government was misleading the people because the drone attacks were happening with its consent even though it outwardly opposed them. He said the US was violating its own laws by launching drone attacks since they were against the sovereignty of a country. "It is like match-fixing between the US and the Pakistan government," he observed.
Alvi said that PTI would force the US to stop drone attacks in Pakistan because many innocent people are also killed in these strikes. "The present regime can also stop the strikes if they have guts but you know they are financially dependent on the US, and are unable to proceed against their masters," he added.
"The thing which we need is courage and financial stability," he said, adding that if you are financially independent, no power in the world could harm you. Our first priority would be strengthening the country through corrective economic measures and eradicating the menace of corruption.
Alvi noted that each bomb that killed terrorists also killed many people who might be related to the terrorists but were not involved in terrorism. "This collateral damage creates more Jihadis than it kills, which the US has also started realising," he argued. The PTI leader also called for cessation of all military activities in the region and resolution of all issues through dialogue if the US wanted to end terrorism and extremism. "The policies of the US to restore peace in the region through drone attacks is like building castles in the air," he maintained.
