Alleged corruption in Laptop scheme: LHC seeks reply from Punjab government
The Lahore High Court here on Thursday sought reply from Punjab government within a week in a petition seeking judicial inquiry into alleged corruption in laptop scheme launched by the Punjab government. The petitioner contended that as per a report of Transparency International, laptop scheme launched by Mian Shahbaz Sharif will cause a loss of Rs 1.7 billion to national exchequer.
He pointed out that each laptop was worth of Rs 25,000, but government purchased it at a rate of Rs 35,000. He said laptop scheme was being used as a tool to carry out political campaign of PML-N. This is evident from the fact that pictures of PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif were being used in newspaper advertisement of Punjab government which was against the law. The petitioner therefore prayed to the court to order judicial inquiry into the matter to unearth real fact and get back embezzled money.
