Fauji Akbar Portia (FAP) has helped Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) save approximately Rs 11.2 million through efficient handling of 300 tons of excess urea, port source said on Thursday. According to the sources, FAP unloaded around 33,500 metric tons of urea imported by the TCP at its automatic bulk cargo terminals with efficient mechanism of cargo handling, saving Rs 11.2 million by discharging access 300 metric tons of the commodity.
They said normally the access quantity of the bulk cargo was left unloaded by the manual cargo dischargers, however FAP made it possible for the TCP. "The FAP's efficient and state of the art terminal provided 300 metric tons of excess urea to the TCP and consequently saving approximately Rs 11.2 million for the state-owned entity," they said. According to an estimate, 95 percent of the total freight trade of Pakistan is seaborne, and the TCP and other importers/traders face billions of rupees of loss by unloading their cargo through inefficient and obsolete cargo handling systems.
Providing 300 tons of excess urea to TCP is a manifestation of accurate and efficient cargo handling system installed at FAP terminals that not only minimise the cargo wastage but also reduce the fear of pilferage, besides saving a sizeable amount for the country and also for the importers, sources said. This was made possible due to the terminal built on a nine-hectare facility with the capacity to handle 700 to 1,000 metric tons cargo in an hour span.
