The training camp for national hockey team will start on Thursday here at Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium to prepare for this year's Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Cup, scheduled to take place in the Malaysian city of Ipoh from May 24 to June 3. Players started assembling in the capital on Wednesday for the preparatory exercise for the Azlan Shah Cup, which will also serve as second phase of the 2012 Olympic games training camp for the national outfit.
The seven-nation event will be played on a blue and pink pitch like the ones at the London Olympics. Pakistan will take on Great Britain (world No 4), South Korea, New Zealand (7th), Argentina, (9), India (10) and host Malaysia (13) in Azlan Shah Cup.
Soon after the Ipoh event, Pakistan hockey team will be travelling to England a few weeks before the start of the Olympics games to "fine tune" their preparations.
The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) announced that it will move base to the Cannock Hockey Club, at Chase Park, in the last phase of its training to iron out their weaknesses.
The team played a three-match series with England on Cannock's pitches, near the town of Hatherton, in 2009. The club boasts of one of the top facilities in England.
