US Deputy Chief of Mission Ambassador Richard Hoagland commended Pakistan for the deregulation of its Information Communications Technology (ICT) sector on Wednesday during a conference hosted by the US Embassy's Commercial Section.
Organised jointly by the US Embassy and the Pakistani Ministry of Information Technology, the conference brought together Pakistani entrepreneurs, policy officials, and experts together with representatives of US ICT companies to discuss ways to expand the sector and increase co-operation between US and Pakistani companies and entrepreneurs. Ambassador Hoagland was joined at the conference by Pakistani Secretary of IT and Telecom Farooq Ahmed Awan.
US Deputy Chief of Mission Ambassador Richard Hoagland stated: "ICT is critical to every country's economic health. It empowers and connects people. It spurs innovation and business, and generates economic growth. The US continues to offer a wide range of potential private-sector ICT partners and solutions to Pakistan's skilled work force of more than 100,000 ICT professionals and more than 1,500 ICT companies. We applaud the work of premier ICT firms such as Microsoft, HP, IBM, Dell, Apple, Intel, Motorola, NCR, Teradata, and Oracle, which are already here in Pakistan, working in this critical field."
Ambassador Hoagland urged continued economic reforms, including greater protection for intellectual property rights, to create an environment more conducive to increasing foreign trade and investment to Pakistan.-PR
