The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday directed Inspector General Police (IGP), Punjab to issue seniority list of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) in line with order of the Supreme Court and the High Court.
Chief Justice LHC, Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed, issued the order while hearing a contempt petition against IGP by DSPs, who were denied promotion to the rank of SPs.
Earlier, IGP Haji Habib-ur-Rehman appeared before the court and stated that some DSPs have taken the seniority issue to the Supreme Court, saying that the promotion issue should be deferred till the decision on their case.
However, the court did not agree with him and asked him to issue seniority list in the light of apex court decision. The CJ observed that an aggrieved person could approach service tribunal against seniority list.
The petitioners, through their counsel had submitted that the department was not promoting them on the ground that they didn't have the required two-year field work experience, which was not mandatory for promotion.
