Two fresh cases of confirmed dengue fever were registered in the preceding week in Karachi bringing the number of these laboratory tested cases to 36 during first 15 weeks of the current year in the metropolis.
Dr Muhammad Shakeel Mullick, Co-ordinator, Dengue Surveillance Cell for Sindh, told APP on Wednesday that the dengue virus that continues to circulate in the atmosphere has lost its intensity due to environmental as well as weather conditions.
The senior doctor said people as well as general physicians are needed to ensure that no case of dengue is overlooked under any condition as any improper handling may turn these, whether during peak season or off season, a contributory factor towards serious complications.
"Over the past few years medical community has been well sensitised about the manifestations and stages of severity that include hemorrhagic stage," he said. In reply to a question he confirmed that a patient once inflicted with the ailment needed to be extremely careful and avoid second episode of dengue fever.
This requires extreme care on part of the people, living in urban centres like Karachi, to not only ensure cleanliness in their surroundings but also necessarily avoid any breeding point for "aedes egypti," the mosque causing dengue.
"They are advised to not only keep the overhead water tanks properly lid but to also ensure that all containers with fresh water adequately as aedes egpti flourish in fresh water.
