Participants at a workshop called for implementation of law on Right to Education, urged the civil society organizations to play their role for mass sanitization and press the government to implement the Article 25-A at earliest.
The workshop titled "Understanding Article 25-A Right to Education" held under auspices of Idara-e-Taleem-o-Agahi (ITA) in collaboration with Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) here at Peshawar Press Club exclusively for training of media persons on Thursday.
Speakers were included Managing Director of Bacha Khan Trust School, Dr Khadim Hussain, Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists General Secretary, Bilal Dar, Khyber Union of Journalists President, Arshad Aziz Malik, representatives of the ITA Waqas Ahmed Bajwa, Afzal Khan, etc.
Afzal Khan and Waqas Hameed Bajwa, while giving presentation on the state of education in Pakistan, they said that the Article 25-A had been approved in April last year but it is yet to be implemented, saying that India is much ahead of our country in this regard.
Afzal said the lack of interests on part of the political parties is main reason behind the implementation of the law, saying that it is duty of the civil society, particularly that of media to create awareness for the purpose. Under the law, he said that compulsory education to be free of cost for the people from the age of 5 to 16 years.
Dr Khadim Hussain said that bureaucratic tactics are the main hurdles in the progress of education system and the entire attention had been focused on purchase of weapons, arms ammunition and education had been ignored altogether.
