The Lahore High Court on Thursday stayed publication of 9th class Islamiat book according to old syllabus and sought reply from Punjab Text Book Board by May 11. A local publisher has challenged an order of Punjab Chief Minister through the publication of Islamiat books under new syllabus were stopped.
The petitioner's counsel argued that the new books were published after lengthy deliberations of Islamic scholars and Punjab Text Book Board. He said millions of rupees were also paid to Punjab government under the head of royalty, however, the board on the directions of the chief minister ordered publication of books as per old syllabus.
The counsel said that the impugned act caused a huge financial loss not only to Punjab government but also to the petitioner. He, therefore, prayed to the court to set aside the orders of Chief Minister Punjab as being illegal.
